Stories by the sea in Shoreham
On Saturday 16th October, the Brighton Future of News group practised what it preaches and set up a multimedia storytelling drop-in day, based in an empty shop in Shoreham-by-Sea.

We had no idea how it would work, and we were thrilled by the results. A small group of journalists and other miscellaneous people gathered to document the stories around the shop, armed with laptops, cameras, mobile wifi and cake.
To our delight, people did drop in and share hundreds (really) of photographs and stories.
You can see the results here on this Tumblr blog, which we updated throughout the day – from midday till closing at 4pm. The photography and the slideshows are especially compelling.

We collected so much you will need to click through to page 2 as well!
Thank you so much to Sarah Booker, Bfong’s organiser, for making it happen and taking ideas discussed around the pub table onto the shop floor; and also to Dan Thompson, of the Artists and Makers Empty Shop Network for giving us the initial idea and the space. We’d love to see similar projects inspired by this one.
